NEWARK, N.J. – One of two men charged in the killing of a Seton Hall University student at an off-campus party has pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges.
Marcus Bascus was arrested in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., several days after the shooting in East Orange, N.J.
Prosecutors say Bascus provided the gun used by fellow defendant Nicholas Welch, who allegedly opened fire at random after being denied entry to a party in a privately owned home on Sept. 25.
Jessica Moore, a sophomore from Disputanta, Va., was killed.
Bascus' lawyer, Clifford Lazzaro, entered the plea for him Wednesday in state Superior Court. Lazzaro told The Star-Ledger of Newark afterward that his client had "no role" in the shooting.
Both defendants are being held on $2 million bail.
